HOW TO FORMAT A
HARDDRIVE
Need: Win98 boot disk with fdisk and format on it
- Put Win98 boot disk in floppy drive
- Turn on Computer
- Wait for boot disk to go through its process. This
could take a few minutes.
- Once A: appears, type fdisk and hit enter
- It will ask you “Do you wish to enable large disk
support?” Answer Yes
- Chose Delete Partition or Logical DOS drive
- Chose Delete Primary DOS Partition
- When asked, “What primary partition do you want to
delete?” Chose 1 and hit Enter
- When asked “Enter Volume Label” leave blank and hit
Enter
- When asked, “Are you sure?” Chose Yes and hit Enter
- It will now say Primary DOS partition deleted. Hit
ESC to continue
- Chose Create DOS or Logical DOS drive and hit Enter
- Chose Create Primary DOS partition and hit Enter
- When asked “Do you wish to use the maximum available
size for a Primary DOS partition and make the partition active?” Chose Yes
and hit Enter
- Once the Primary DOS partition is created you must
restart computer by choosing CTRL + ALT + DELETE (make sure boot disk is
still in computer)
- Chose start computer with CD-ROM support and hit
Enter
- When A: prompt appears type Format C: and hit Enter
- When asked “Proceed with Format” Chose Yes and hit
Enter (This will take a few minutes to format drive)
- Once Format is complete it will want you to enter a
volume label. Just hit Enter for None.
- When A: prompt appears type C: and hit Enter
- Then type md win98 and hit Enter
- Then type cd win98 and hit Enter
- Put your Windows 98 CD in CD-ROM
- Then type copy d:\win98 and hit Enter
- Once it runs type Setup and hit Enter twice
